Was messing around on the Internet today at work and managed to make my way to The Dissident Frogman who had an interesting article about how the French want to erase history by removing American stuff from the Normandy Memorial.
I think I remember reading somewhere that 2.5 million US servicemen lost their lives in the whole of World War II, but that figure also includes the Pacific war losses (Japan). I do know that there were entire divisions nearly wiped out in the first wave of the invasion, something like 15,000 casualties on the beach alone in the first 2 hours.
What irks me is the French ingratitude. How soon they forget that they'd be singing the German National Anthem if it wasn't for AMERICAN SACRIFICE. In fact, the whole of Europe, Northern Africa and Asia Minor would be too. It's a damn shame the French have to resort to such petty shennanigans. We lost thousands of Americans from all walks of life ridding the world of Hitler and regardless of the petty spats between the French and American governments, it is a travisty stop honoring those who lost their lives freeing a country that was not their own.
What a petty, insensitive, idiotic society, indeed. This is why my AMERICAN dollars will never see the French shores again.

Posted by: Arlen at January 30, 2004 04:46 AMWell in a recent article in an English paper the french thought it was a good idea to graffiti the English and American graves with "dig up you dead, they are fouling our soil" As an English person i have never liked the french and never will, they can f**k their euro currency shit, 100's of years at war and we are just going to let them decide our economy. Makes me sick.

Posted by: trkz at July 5, 2003 06:27 AMI hope French people don't look at some of the American opinions of them and think WE all want to erase them, either. I don't like them not supporting us, but hey, we have short memories too, not QUITE as short, but we got a little help from them during the Revolution...
Besides, further in this particular site it says,
"Next, I read here and there, people stating that I wrote or declared the Museum, its staff or the even Town council "decided to remove all American flags" from the museum or that "all symbols representing America have been removed from the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy in Bayeux, France".
That is SIMPLY NOT TRUE and can be easily verified in my article. I have other photos to prove it as well and it's worth mentioning that half of the museum is dedicated to the American Sector of the aforementioned battle."
Long, deep breaths would help some of this business... and maybe some Freedom Kissing. ::slurp::
{{HUGS}}
This is like some bizarre break up. First, America says it going to do what it wants and France says, "No, and we don't want anything to do with your ideas and plans." America starts freedom-ing this and freedom-ing that to get around anything associated with France and trying to ignore France and their imports. France retaliates with excluding America from everything, even the past. I see America as the man and France as the woman. I bet, in France's photo albums, America is now cut out of the map. (Maybe the items are just out for cleaning?)
